Tonight I made Vegan Buffalo Mac and Cheese. I started with this recipe for Vegan Mac and Cheese and made a few changes.
Billy and I really liked this variation of the recipe. The buffalo sauce really worked well with the vegan cheese sauce.
Noodles
- 8 oz pasta
Cheese sauce
- 3/4 cup nutritional yeast
- 1/4 cup flour
- 2 teaspoons granulated garlic
- 2 teaspoons dried chopped onions
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- pinch turmeric
- 2 cups vegetable broth
- 1/2 teaspoon yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon Frank’s RedHot Sauce
Breadcrumb topping
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoons Frank’s RedHot Sauce
- Cook the pasta according to package directions.
- Meanwhile, whisk together all the cheese sauce ingredients in a saucepan. Cook over medium low heat, whisking often, until thickened.
- Stir together all the topping ingredients.
- Stir together cheese sauce and noodles. Put in a baking dish and top with breadcrumb topping.
- Place in broiler for 3-5 minutes, or until top is toasted.

This looks delicious! Haven’t tried hot sauce in my mac and cheeze yet.
It was! Of course I love hot sauce on pretty much anything. When I bought my new fridge, a big concern was door space for all my hot sauces
I am definitely going to try this! I love buffalo anything!
Me too! Hope you like it.
Very yummy looking! Breadcrumb topping sounds amazing to me
Yeah, it really makes mac & cheese feel fancy
Love the last photo!
Hot cheese in mac n cheese? Sounds like an interesting combo, will definitely have to try that soon!
I love how you have hot sauce, cheese sauce followed by a good ol’ coat of bread crumbs. Also, your mug.
Thanks! I have two of those mugs. They are amazing…bought them on clearance at Target about 5 years ago and they haven’t chipped at all.
I’d love a saucy mac and cheese…This buffalo version makes me so excited to try this out. Yummy! Thanks for sharing!
Hope you like it! Let me know how it turns out.
Bread crumbs always completely ruin a good mac & cheese. I will never understand why people feel the need to do that. If you want a tiny bit of crunch, put a bit of grated cheese on top and then go under a broiler for 2-3 min. Other than that, interesting take on mac.
Tastes vary, that’s for sure. I feel the same way about fancy restaurants that put foam on top of your food. Yuck!

This is so awesome. I JUST posted a mac and cheese recipe, and mine came out looking a lot like yours. BUT…your Buffalo idea is simply genius! I think I’ll have to try this recipe next!
Yeah, the buffalo sauce would be a great addition to any mac and cheese.
